The Junior Order United American Mechanics National Orphan’s Home, known as the Jr. Home, was significant in American history as an example of self-contained residential institutions that flourished in latter 19th and early 20th century America. The Jr. Home was a place “associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of America’s history.”

Barbara Lovill Woodruff, 64, of Riverview Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at her home.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by Fred Moretz.

Mrs. Woodruff was born July 8, 1943, in Surry County to James Authur Lovill and Margaret Norman Lovill. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Bobby Lovill; and a sister, Esther Lovill Atkins.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Gray Woodruff of the home; a daughter, Tammy Woodruff Burns and her husband, Jamie, of Denton; Mother Margaret of Asheboro; two grandchildren, Heather Snow and Kevin Gunter; and a sister, Carolyn Lovill Young.

There will be no public visitation.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. Please make memorials to the American Children's Home, P.O. Box 1288, Lexington, NC 27293.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hopkins and Hospice for their kind care.
