After nearly four years as director of the Tiffin Developmental Center, Peggy Bockley has submitted her resignation, effective the first week of April.
Although she called it her “dream job”, Bockley said she took a position closer to her home in Delphos.
“I have been commuting an hour and a half each way, so I’ve decided to accept a job closer to my home and family. It was an extremely hard decision because this is a wonderful place,” Bockley said. “It was an opportunity that I’m glad I had.”
She recalled walking around on campus when she came for her interview and admiring the beautiful grounds. Even more attractive to her was the competent staff, she said.
“We just had a Medicaid survey with no problematic or medical citations. That is a wonderful accomplishment. It just says how dedicated the staff at Tiffin Developmental Center are. We have a very dedicated staff and I’m really going to miss the people I work with here,” Bockley said. “The people are just passionate about what they do. That was a quality I really like to see.”
Bockley said her resignation was not related to the Jan. 31 report by Incident Management Services. The study concerned a strategic plan for developmental centers in the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
“I was afraid people would think that, but it has absolutely nothing to do with it,” Bockley said.
She said she is hopeful the public will attend the open forum 2:30-4:30 pm March 13 at Tiffin University’s Franks Hall. Bockley said she plans to attend the event.
“People from our central office are going to come and community members, families, guardians, employees, will get to come and have the opportunity to express any concerns they have about the (Developmental Center) study that’s published on our Web site. We’ve invited a lot of people and it’s open to the public. Anybody can come,” Bockley said.
Before working in Tiffin, Bockley spent 22 years at the residential treatment center at Oakwood where patients from Allen Correctional Facility were treated. Her new job is to be physician/mental health nurse supervisor at Allen Correctional Facility.
“I love to teach, so maybe this will give me an opportunity to teach a class at the college,” Bockley said.
